New York City

Lower Manhattan as viewed from  the Governor's Island  ferry

Central Park  is 843 acres and claims to be the most visited park in the  U.S.

Personally I prefer the Grand Canyon !!

The Brooklyn Bridge, we walked across it once; only problem was we ended up in BROOKLYN.

Times Square

I hate it !!
sidewalks are  impossible.

The "Naked Cowboy", you can see this dude everyday in Times Square, don't know if he can play his guitar but I don't think the women care.

Winter in Greenwich Village
The only serious snow we have experienced was in February of 2006. NYC along with the Arctic appears to be warming up.

New Yorkers believe NYC is the center of the universe, I'm often told it is the "greatest city in the world".

I don't agree with them, but what do I know, being from that "cultural wasteland"  Southern California.

Big Macs at 3 a.m.?

Some of you may
have seen this photo originally called
"Two Blocks from Home".

Forget it,,no offense but this place will NEVER be my home !!

Loser : 211 Pearl Street. Built by William Colgate in 1831 and survived the great NYC fire of 1836.

Winner: A large-scale condo development project. Surprise Surprise !!

Trinity Church is located on Broadway at the end of Wall Street.  The original was destroyed in 1776 by fire, the present building  was completed and consecrated in 1846.

"Now you're smiling out the window
Of that crummy hotel
Over Washington Square"

"Diamonds and Rust"
-Joan Baez-

That "crummy hotel" is now a trendy hotel that charges a bundle.

Once characterized by tenements and pushcarts, Orchard Street on the lower east side is my favorite part of the city.

He should feel right at home!!

Looking across the East River at Brooklyn with the Brooklyn Bridge to the right and the Manhattan bridge on the left.

The Bowery Station ,brothels, beer joints and flophouses,(cival war era). Stephan Foster lived at  the North American Hotel at 30 Bowery .

Have you ever wondered what was
under the streets? There is a lot of
construction is going on in lower
Manhattan at the present time.

It's nothing to hear jackhammers at
all  hours,  we heard them once at
1 a.m. The up side is they drown out the sirens.

Some 30 billion pounds of steam every year flow beneath the streets of Manhattan from the Battery to 96th Street.
Steam wafting up from the streets is often vapor produced when underground water hits hot equipment and escapes from beneath the streets. It can also be condensed steam leaking from the Con Ed system.

There are many things I don't like about NYC, but hey, concentrate on the things I DO like about it, here are two of them.

Is graffiti art? If Monet (were he alive) painted on your door using a spray can, would it be a masterpice?

Night view of the city, looking north from lower Manhattan

Can you feel the love?

I confess, I didn't take this picture, to be honest I wouldn't want to be within 2 blocks of this guy. Can you imagine the frustration he must feel?, I mean all dressed up and no one to shoot.
