With more than a million and a half visitors each year this cemetery ranks as one of the most popular tourist destinations in Paris. 

The cemetery is affectionately called "la cité des morts"-the city of the dead -by Parisians.  Numerous celebrities have their resting place here, including Chopin, Jim Morrison, Oscar Wilde, François Truffaut, and Edith Piaf.
