Not long after  King Stephen’s death, healing miracles were said to have occurred at his tomb. Thus he was canonized in 1083 and as part of the process  his corpse was exhumed from his crypt. It is said that his right arm was found to be as fresh as the day he was buried and was promptly lopped off to be preserved and venerated.

OK,,only his arm was fresh????

Protesting government corruption, an all too familiar issue. October 2006

We heard there was to be protesting, we arrived early, not much happened. We missed the tank stealing incident.

60 Andrassy Street, once housed the headquarters of Hungary’s notorious Stalinist secret police. Today it is known as " The Terror House" a memorial museum to Hungarian victims of terror who were tortured, beaten, killed, or starved by the Nazis  and later on by the Soviets. The museum reveals  what life was like for people under both the Nazis and Soviets. The basement contains cells where torture took place - including a room in which oxygen was shut off to the occupant and a room where the occupant was made to sit or stand in water.

Unfortunately photography was prohibited inside the museum.

Memorial

On November 4th, 1956 Soviet tanks rolled into Budapest crushing a revolt against the oppressive communist government. Radio signals were broadcasted all over pleading with the Western Powers to "HELP HUNGARY!" The world, including the U.S did nothing, we didn’t care.
